BEFORE US, THERE WAS HIM DR. HEWITT W. “TED” MATTHEWS
Dr. Matthews served as dean of the College of Pharmacy for 27 years before retiring in 2017, making him the first African-American dean at Mercer College. “MOTIVATIONAL. INSPIRATIONAL. INCREDIBLE.” Known as the GOAT, he had a way of making every student believe in their potential – greeting them with, “What’s up, Doc?” and reminding them that they were becoming more than they knew.
